For a people who had lost the temple's daily rhythm, the public reading of God's word on feast days kept the covenant alive and gathered a scattered community around a shared confession.

And read ye this book, which we have sent to you to be read in the temple of the Lord, on feasts, and proper days.

Read and hear God's word publicly in worship, on the feasts and appointed days, so that the community is formed by it together.
