The people gave massively to the Temple construction. David didn't boast. He was humbled. He prayed: 'All things come from You, and of Your own have we given You.'

David gave the modern equivalent of billions. He claimed credit for none of it. Torah connection: Deuteronomy 8:18 (He gives power to get wealth). The Pharisaic distortion: Sounding a trumpet when giving alms.

But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
