David danced before the Ark with all his might. His wife Michal despised him for looking foolish/common. David doubled down: 'I will be even more undignified than this.'

Michal thought a King should be 'dignified' (proud/distant). David knew he was just a servant before YHWH. Torah connection: Deuteronomy 6:5 (Love with all strength). The Pharisaic distortion: Doing deeds to be seen by men.

David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh. I will be yet more vile than this, and will be worthless in my own sight. But of the servants of whom you have spoken, they will honor me.”
