Given by: Enoch, who swears by the glory of the Great and Honoured and Mighty One and testifies that he has read the heavenly tablets. Given to: the righteous, living and dead, who endure the contempt of sinners.

In honour-and-shame societies public contempt was a weapon that could destroy a family's standing; the sinners' contumely against the righteous was social warfare, and Enoch disarms it with a greater honour bestowed by God Himself.

And the spirits of you who have died in righteousness shall live and rejoice, And their spirits shall not perish, nor their memorial from before the face of the Great One Unto all the generations of the world: wherefore no longer fear their contumely.

Because the spirits of the righteous dead live, rejoice, and are remembered before the Great One for all generations, the righteous are commanded to stop fearing the scorn and insults of sinners.
