Given by: Enoch, son of Jared, introducing his second vision — the three Parables of wisdom — spoken before the Lord of Spirits. Given to: those who dwell on earth, both 'men of old time' and all 'that come after'.

Wisdom literature conventionally opened with a call to hear ('Hear, my son'); Enoch widens the summons to the whole inhabited earth and to unborn generations, presenting his parables as public wisdom for all time, not the private lore of a school.

And this is the beginning of the words of wisdom which I lifted up my voice to speak and say to those which dwell on earth: Hear, ye men of old time, and see, ye that come after, the words of the Holy One which I will speak before the Lord of Spirits.

Opening the Parables, Enoch summons a double audience — the men of old time and those who come after — to hear and see the words of the Holy One. God's wisdom is addressed to every generation, and every generation is charged to attend.
