By declining to be anyone's accomplice, and loving companions enough to abandon — and help them abandon — a plan that will destroy them.

keep the door to repentance open by refusing binding pacts with evil

and be the voice that abandons the plan rather than the one who swears to it

‘I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.’ And they all answered him and said: ‘Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.’
