Given by: Enoch, at the close of his life, to his son Methuselah. Given to: Methuselah, who is charged to summon all his brothers and the sons of his mother for Enoch's final testament.

In the ancient Near East a patriarch's final words carried binding weight, and the deathbed gathering of sons — as with Jacob in Genesis 49 — was the solemn moment when a family's covenant identity was handed to the next generation.

And now, my son Methuselah, call to me all thy brothers And gather together to me all the sons of thy mother; For the word calls me, And the spirit is poured out upon me, That I may show you everything That shall befall you for ever.

Before his departure, Enoch sends Methuselah to call every brother and gather the whole family, so that not one of them misses the word God has given him to speak.
