Given by: Enoch, in the admonitions of his epistle. Given to: the righteous — addressed directly, because it is precisely the righteous who are tempted to believe they can stand near sin safely.

Proverbs gave the same counsel about the adulteress — 'remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house' (Proverbs 5:8) — and Psalm 1 blessed the man who does not stand in the way of sinners. Ancient wisdom knew that character is decided at the approach, not the act.

And now I say unto you the righteous: Walk not in the paths of wickedness, nor in the paths of death, And draw not nigh to them, lest ye be destroyed.

The righteous are told not only to avoid walking in the paths of wickedness and death, but not even to draw near them — because proximity to destruction is itself dangerous.
