Israel answered great deliverances with sung praise — as Miriam did at the sea with timbrels; Judith's canticle stands in that tradition, marshalling music and voice to give God the glory for the victory.

Begin ye to the Lord with timbrels, sing ye to the Lord with cymbals, tune unto him a new psalm, extol and call upon his name.

Answer God's deliverance with music and a new song, extolling and calling upon His name.
