Given by: the angel of the presence to Moses on Sinai, recounting how the young Abram separated from his idolatrous father. Given to: Israel, and every believer called to stand apart from the idolatry of their kin.

Jubilees builds a boyhood for Abram in idolatrous Ur, so that his later call is the flowering of a faith he had already chosen at cost — a portrait meant to steel Jews under pressure to assimilate.

And the child began to understand the errors of the earth that all went astray after graven images and after uncleanness, and his father taught him writing, and he was two weeks of years old, and he separated himself from his father, that he might not worship idols with him.

Young Abram, seeing the world gone astray after idols, separates himself from his own father rather than worship them. Separate yourself from idolatry, even at personal and family cost.
