Given by: the angel of the presence to Moses on Sinai, recounting Isaac's birth and circumcision at the Well of the Oath. Given to: Moses, as the pattern-setting first keeping of the covenant sign ordained for ever.

Under Hellenistic rule, circumcision was the covenant mark most mocked and, at times, most dangerous to keep; Jubilees answers by tracing it to Abraham's own hands on the eighth day of his miracle son's life — the oldest loyalty, not an embarrassment.

And Abraham circumcised his son on the eighth day: he was the first that was circumcised according to the covenant which is ordained for ever.

Abraham circumcised Isaac on the eighth day, the first child brought under the everlasting covenant — a father's prompt obedience giving his son to God from the start.
