Given by: the angel of the presence to Moses on Sinai, retelling how Adam laboured outside Eden. Given to: Moses, and through him to Israel, as an example of faithfulness that persists beyond the place of first learning.

For an agrarian people, tilling cursed and thorny ground was far harder than tending Eden; the book honours the perseverance of continuing God's instructed work under such changed and harsher conditions.

Now he tilled the land as he had been instructed in the Garden of Eden.

Outside Eden, in a harder land, Adam keeps doing what God taught him; carry forward faithful practice into difficult places, not only the easy ones where you learned it.
