Sacrifice in the patriarchal world was a household feast as much as an offering; to invite one's father to the sacrifice was to honour him with the best a son had — a share in his joy before God.

And he went up on the new moon of the seventh month to Bethel. And he built an altar at the place where he had slept, and he set up a pillar there, and he sent word to his father Isaac to come to him to his sacrifice, and to his mother Rebecca.

Jacob fulfils his vow at the very place God met him — building an altar where he had slept — and sends word inviting his father and mother to share in the worship.
