In the ancient courts of the nations, verdicts routinely followed rank and gifts; Israel's confession of an unbribable Judge was a standing rebuke to every corrupt bench — beginning with the temptation to imagine heaven's court works like earth's.

And do thou, Moses, write (it) down for Israel that they may observe it, and do according to these words, and not commit a sin unto death; for the Lord our God is judge, who respects not persons and accepts not gifts.

Israel must observe the word and avoid sin unto death, because the Lord who judges cannot be swayed by status and cannot be bought.
