For a man who had ruled a nobleman's estate to wait upon fellow prisoners was a steep fall in station; Jubilees presents Joseph's willing service as evidence of a character unshaken by loss of rank.

And the chief of the prison guards appointed Joseph to serve them; and he served before them.

Once a favoured steward, now a prisoner, Joseph willingly serves Pharaoh's fallen officials — humble service of fellow sufferers, whatever one's former station.
