The abandoned garment, seized as evidence, would cost Joseph his freedom; Jubilees preserves this to show that decisive flight from sin can be costly and misjudged, yet remains the right course.

But she embraced him and held him fast in the house in order to force him to lie with her, and closed the doors of the house and held him fast; but he left his garment in her hands and broke through the door and fled without from her presence.

Seized and cornered, Joseph flees — leaving his garment behind and breaking through the door — choosing loss and reputation over sin.
