To rebuke a stronger man striking another took real courage in a world where might often ruled; Moses' question exposes the wrong even though it would soon cost him his safety at court.

And on the second day thou didst find two of the children of Israel striving together, and thou didst say to him who was doing the wrong: 'Why dost thou smite thy brother?'

Seeing two of his own people fighting, Moses does not pass by but confronts the one in the wrong: why do you strike your brother?
