Given by: the angel of the presence to Moses on Sinai, recalling the sign of the blood on the lintels in Egypt. Given to: Israel through Moses — a witness that salvation came by God's appointed sign.

The blood on the doorposts was the visible pledge of God's protection on the night of judgment; Jubilees keeps this sign as the ground of Israel's deliverance, a mark of God's covenant mercy.

And this is the sign which the Lord gave them: Into every house on the lintels of which they saw the blood of a lamb of the first year, into (that) house they should not enter to slay, but should pass by (it), that all those should be saved that were in the house because the sign of the blood was on its lintels.

Salvation came by God's appointed sign: wherever the blood of the lamb marked the door, the destroyer passed by and all within were saved.
