In a violent age where blood was cheap and vengeance unbounded, grounding the worth of every human in God's image was a revolutionary limit, setting the dignity of persons above tribe, status, and power.

Whoso sheddeth man's blood by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God made He man.
