Given by: God Himself, from the throne. Given to: All humanity — warning to the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars.

Ancient cities controlled entry at their gates; the New Jerusalem's gates exclude defined practices, making moral separation a condition of citizenship.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Total compliance requires separation from the eight named practices whose end is the lake of fire: cowardice, unbelief, abomination, murder, sexual immorality, sorcery, idolatry, and all lying.
