Narrated as Tobit's example. Setting: seeing his kinsman Gabelus in want, Tobit gives him a sum of money, taking only a note of his hand.

In the diaspora, bonds of tribe and kindred carried real obligations of mutual aid; to relieve a kinsman in want was both duty and a mark of covenant faithfulness.

And when amongst a great multitude of his kindred, he saw Gabelus in want, who was one of his tribe, taking a note of his hand he gave him the aforesaid sum of money.

When you see a kinsman in genuine want, relieve him generously, extending help freely and on trust.
