Narrated as Tobit's example. Setting: at the Temple in Jerusalem, Tobit faithfully offered all his firstfruits and tithes; verse 7 extends his generosity even to the strangers among the people.

Tithes and firstfruits sustained the priesthood and the poor; the following verse (1:7) shows Tobit's tithe reaching even the strangers among the people, an overflow of covenant generosity.

And went to Jerusalem to the temple of the Lord, and there adored the Lord God of Israel, offering faithfully all his firstfruits, and his tithes,

Render to God the first and best of what you have — firstfruits and tithes — faithfully and in full.
