Burial of the dead was a sacred duty Tobit had honoured all his life; even here, obedience to depart is framed around first fulfilling that duty to his wife and himself.

And now, children, hear me, and do not stay here: but as soon as you shall bury your mother by me in one sepulchre, without delay direct your steps to depart hence:

Do not stay in this place; once your mother is buried, leave without delay.
