In the diaspora, hospitality among the scattered covenant people was a chief expression of faithfulness; sharing a table bound a powerless community together where Temple worship was impossible.

He said to his son: Go, and bring some of our tribe that fear God, to feast with us.

When you sit down to a good meal, seek out the God-fearing poor of your own people and bring them to share it.
