Given by: Judas Maccabeus, entrusting all to God before facing a great danger. Given to: his people, exhorted to hold fast to God's law, temple, and their sacred trust even at the cost of their lives.

For the faithful, the law, temple, and city were the visible signs of covenant with God; to stand for them was to stand for God Himself. Judas grounds that stand not in force but in committing all to the Creator.

So committing all to God, the creator of the world, and having exhorted his people to fight manfully, and to stand up even to death for the laws, the temple, the city, their country, and citizens: he placed his army about Modin.

Commit everything to God the Creator, and stand firm for His law even at the cost of your life.
