Given by: Judas Maccabeus, steadying his people before an overwhelming threat. Given to: those tempted to fear — recalled to God's past help and hope in Him.

The 'coming of the nations' meant an overwhelming enemy host. Judas turns his people from counting the threat to recalling the God who had saved them before — memory made into hope.

And he exhorted his people not to fear the coming of the nations, but to remember the help they had before received from heaven, and now to hope for victory from the Almighty.

Do not fear; remember how God has helped before, and hope in the Almighty for what lies ahead.
