Foreign officials repeatedly threatened the temple and its wealth; faithful priests like Onias guarded the sanctuary yet answered even hostility with intercession rather than vengeance.

So the high priest considering that the king might perhaps suspect that some mischief had been done to Heliodorus by the Jews, offered a sacrifice of health for the recovery of the man.

The high priest Onias interceded and offered sacrifice for the very man who had come to plunder God's temple.
