In a persecution meant to break the people's faith, the memory of a faithful elder's death became a source of courage, strengthening both the young and the whole nation to stand firm.

Thus did this man die, leaving not only to young men, but also to the whole nation, the memory of his death for an example of virtue and fortitude.

Eleazar's faithful death left the whole nation a lasting memory of virtue and fortitude.
