In a culture that celebrated the perfected, self-made person, the book insists that without God's wisdom even such a one is of no account — a sharp reordering of what counts as greatness.

For if one be perfect among the children of men, yet if thy wisdom be not with him, he shall be nothing regarded.

Even the seemingly perfect among people count for nothing if God's wisdom is not with them.
